Feeling Hot Hot Hot, Sagana, Kenya

OK, nothing in Harmers life ever ever goes to plan but this day it needed too.

An overnight flight from Heathrow to Nairobi saw me land in the capital, just before 6.00am to be quickly met by Kris Collyer, Savage Wilderness Safaris Head River Guide.

Kris quickly bundled my luggage and me into the car after a typical Kenyan jobsworth episode.

“Sir you cannot park there”

“But I am taking 10 seconds and have to be at work soon”

“You must pay 2000 Kenyan Shillings”

“But we must get to work, its with the Britsh Army”

“OK you can go”

This behaviour is common here and did nothing to deter us and Kris  sped me through rush hour Nairobi, back to Savages Nairobi Base. A quick hello and loading of luggage and I was off to the Savages Sagana Base, 2 hours north of Nairobi.

Forty minutes later and I was at work with fellow British citizen Colin Chick, the two of us were working a climbing course for the British Army, during their R&R phase of Black Watch battlegroup training.

The scene was hectic yet professional and a good time was had by all, although the heat was hard to adjust too down at the baboons crag.

The evening followed with a few quiet beers and lots of catching up from the previous four years when I was previously out here in Kenya.
